Curtis V. Schreiber
Curtis was born on December 19,
1938 in Shelton, WA. He passed on
April 18, 2007 at his home at Shady
Lake in Maple Valley south of Seattle,
WA from a form of Lymphoma cancer.
Curtis was known by his family and
friends as Curt.
Curt grew up in Shelton and
‘ graduated from Shelton High School
s in 1956. During this time he went
through the scouting program from
Cub Scouts to Advanced Explorers.
He enjoyed the opportunity to hike the many trails throughout the
Olympics.
He was drafted into the Army after High School. While
attending Basic Training in Fort 0rd, CA, he was recognized for
his marksmanship abilities After his training he was assigned
to Germany where he spent the next two years and received his
Honorable Discharge While there he was able to see several other
countries.
He began his working career with Pacific Northwest Bell in
Burien, WA After a short time he was recruited by RCA to work
at a Radar Base north of Fairbanks, AK as a civilian. After a few
years in Alaska his adventures continued when he worked in the
Merchant Marine as an electrician on ships traveling to many
destinations in the world, visiting different ports primarily in Asia.
Years later he decided to settle down in Seattle, WA and went to
work for Cochran Electric He worked his way up the company
ladder to a position of bidding major jobs and having responsibility
for their completion. Some of these included the Seahawks Stadium,
Safeco Field, numerous Seattle office buildings and renovations
During his working career he bought a few race horses and had
good success with them. One of these horses was an off-spring of
the famous Seattle Slew_ who won the Triple Crown. Because of
injuries to his best horse he chose to get out of horse racing.
Throughout Curt’s life he was tinkering and wrenching and
enjoyed restoring and customizing older street hotrods. He had so
many over the years he joked around about some day owning all of
the different models.
When he retired from Cochran Electric he purchased some golf
carts used during the Safeco Field construction project. He had
figured out how to customize these golf carts into desert dune
buggies. He and friends later rode in the Yuma, AZ area where he
spent the winter months.
Curt and his wife Sherry were very active in the Seattle
Metropolitan Car Club. These cars had to be restored and were
used in parades all over the Northwest and Western Canada. He
served as President of the club for four years.
His other passion was owning and riding Harley-Davidson
motorcycles. He also built a custom tricycle which he rode for
several years. He and Sherry made many trips to Sturgis, SD for
the annual Harley gatherings. They attended many fund raising
rides including a few with Peter Fonda in the Los Angeles area.
The most extreme trip was taking the Harley to Australia and
Tasmania where they rode for several weeks
Curt is survived by his wife Sherry of Maple Valley. His son
Glenn, father Verle, and brother Arnie are all in the Shelton area.
Step-daughters Cindy and Tina, step-son Mike and sons Curtis and
Dean, nephews, and several grandchildren are all in Washington.
His mother Bernice and son Danny preceded his passing
Curt lived a very adventurous life During his grave side service
he received Veteran Honors. He will be missed by his family and
friends.
