First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Newspapers produce and deliver news and information which they feel is important -- most often from public information such as arrest reports, traffic infractions, accidents, indictments, lawsuits, jury verdicts, property records, legal notices, and many other sources of information which is freely available to anyone at any time.
