September 11 Memorial asks,“Always Remember”
City council meeting was
filled to standing room only
on Tuesday, September 8 when
citizens were asking what the
city’s plans are for the area
where the city’s Permit Center
is located.
Rumors abound about Wil-
liams Investments building a
124-unit, six-story apartment
building on Williams’ property
on the lake near North Cove
Park, as well as the adjacent
city owned property where the
Permit Center is currently sit-
ting.
Citizens were concerned that
the city was planning to sell
part of North Cove Park with-
out public comment.

Development put on hold for now
“The city doesn’t have any-
thing to speak on,” Lake Ste-
vens Mayor Vern Little said.
“We don’t have anything sub-
mitted by the developer and
there’s no desire to get rid of
the park.”
Williams Investments’ con-
sultant Reid Shockey, said that
the development will be on
hold until the city completes
its downtown sub-area plan.
“The developer would like to
be a part of the sub-area plan-
ning,” City of Lake Stevens
Planning Director Becky Able-
man said.
“There are four, five, six dif-
ferent applications that have to
be submitted to the city; none
of them have been submitted.
They have been put on hold,”
