Joel Cedric McLin, a Shelton
resident for 15 years, died in a
climbing accident on Mount
Washington summit Tuesday,
May 13. He was 22.

at Glacier Na-
tional Park and
Rainier National Park. He was a
member of the college‘s Reserve
Officer Training Corps and was
due to be commissioned an Army
lieutenant in 2004.
His family said he enjoyed
reading about and meditating on
God and sharing the Gospel. He
also enjoyed helping others, back-
packing, mountaineering, sailing,
scuba diving, skiing, canoeing,
studying nature, taking road trips
in his truck, poetry, writing inu—
sic, singing, playing his Violin and
guitar, baseball, football, track
and cross-country, acting, and
swing and tap dancing.
Mr. McLin participated in a
number of orchestras, sym»
phonics and choirs. He portrayed
' Paul Bunyan in the 1998 Forest
Festival. He graduated from Shel~
ton High School in 1999 and was
a Running Start student at Olym-
pic College in Bremerton during

his senior year, He was'inducted
into the college’s Phi Theta Kap-
pa Society with a 3.9 grade—point
average and elected as a repre»
sentative in OC’s student govern-
ment that year.
He sang in the concert choir
and the elite show choir, The Illu-
sions, at SHS and played Cinder-
ella’s Prince in the SHS musical,
Into the Woods, in the spring of
his junior year.
In the summer of 1998, he
toured Europe with the Sound of
America Honor Choir and Band,
then sang with J azzline, Olympic
College’s top jazz chain At Whea-
ton College, he was a member of
the Men’s Glee Club for one year
and the concert choir for two
years.
He was preceded in death by
his grandparents Ruth McLin in
1992, Donald Crumley Sr. in 1982
and Arlene Crumley—Otts in 1984,
and aunt Glenys McLin in 1993.
Survivors include his brother,
Matthew McLin and his wife J en-
nifer of Hillsboro, Oregon; par-
ents Ralph and Kathryn McLin of
Shelton; and grandfather Glen
McLin of Shelton.
A funeral service was held
Tuesday, May 20, at the West-
wood Baptist Church in Olympia.
Dr. Robert Rayburn officiated.
Burial was at Shelton Memorial
Park.
Memorial donations may be
sent to Peninsula Community
Federal Credit Union, in care of
the Joel McLin Memorial Fund,
521 West Railroad Avenue, Shel-
ton.
