Thelma Leona “Churn” Thomas,
76, a resident of the Olympia area
since 1951, died Friday, Feb. 25,
1994, in St. Peter Hospital, Olym-
Ia
She was born
Jan. 5, 1918, in
Wimbleton,
N.Di, to Thomas
J. and Louise
Bertina (Mi-
klethun) Se-
ljestad. She
went to Canada
as a child, then
grew up in She-
lton, attended schools there and
graduated from Shelton High
School. She also attended Deitz
Business College in Seattle.
She married Aubrey Thomas in
Shelton in 1939. He preceded her in
death in Olympia, June 1973.
Mrs. Thomas retired as Thursr
ton County Clerk in 1990 alter 24
years in Superior Court.
“All of us viewed her as one of
the sweetest persons you‘d ever
want to work with,” said Thurston
County Auditor Sam Reed, who
worked with Thomas for 12 years.
”She always had a' personable way
to deal with everyone. You felt like
you were her best buddy.”
Thomas had also been co-owner
of Harris St Thomas Christmas
Tree Co. from 1940-75.
She owned, groomed and
showed Arabian horses, was an ex-
cellent chef, enjoyed her garden,
played the organ and was an ex
ceptional violinist
Mrs. Thomas was a member of
the Arabian Horses Breeders Asso
ciation.
Her survivors include a daugh—
ter, Michaele Stickley, Charlotte,
NC; a brother, Lorell Seljestad,
Sunnyslope; and numerous nieces
and nephews. Her brother, BJ.
“0cky” Seljestad preceded her in
death in 1987.
A graveside service for Mrs.
Thomas will begin at 1 pm Tues-
day, March 1, in Shelton Memorial
Park A memorial service will fol-
low at 3 pm. in Gloria Dei Luth-
eran Church, Olympia, with the
Rev. Philip Rue officiating
The family suggests that memo-
rials may be made to the Alz-
heimer‘s Association of Puget
Sound, 120 Northgate Plaza Suite
316, Seattle, Wash. 98125.
