Elsie A. LaCroix, a Grapeview
resident for 22 years and before
that a longtime Hoquiam resi-
dent, died of congestive heart fail
ure Thursday, April 19, at her
home. She was 81.
She was born October 26. 1919
in Youngs River, Oregon, to John
and Esther (Westerlund) Gustaf-
son.
She married Francis LaCroix
on July 2, 1938 in Hoquiam. He
preceded her in death in 1989‘
She was a dental assistant for
Drl Harold Carter in Hoquiam for
20 years.
Mrs. LaCroix sang with the
Sweet Adelines in Grays Harbor
and was a member of the Aber-
deen Eagles Drill Team Auxiliary
and the Mason Benson Communi-
ty Club in this county‘
She volunteered as a reading
tutor for 20 years with the Grape-
view School District and received
an award for her service. She en-
joyed cooking and dancing, and
reading was her passion.
She was also preceded in death
by sisters Ingrid Halverson and
Martha Brunsted and brother
Bert Gustafson.
Survivors include her brother
Stephen LaCroix of Hot Springs,
Arkansas; daughter Janet John-
son of Aberdeen; sister Esther
Chakones of Olympia; lifelong
friend Charlotte Booher of Pasoo;
five grandchildren, nine great-
grandchildren and numerous
nieces, nephews and cousins.
No services are planned.
Memorial donations may be
made to Saints’ Pantry food bank,
in care of Barbara Hinck, 1816
