'w‘ 7: Jennie L. fiice Former Shelton resident Jen- nie L. (MacRae) Rice died Friday, December 27, at her home in Kent. She was 70. She was born in Shelton on February 6, 1932, to John G. and M. Dorothy Macl'tae. She was a 4-H member as a youth and won many awards at local and state fairs for sewing and cooking, She graduated from Irene S. Reed High School then attended Wash- ington State University. During her junior year, she traveled to Scotland as an ambas- sador for the International Farm Youth Exchange to promote world peace. She spent four months liv- ing with Scottish families, then returned home and spent the next year speaking to associations about her experiences. She was vice president of the College Club and worked on an- nuals in high school and college. She graduated from WSU in 1956 with a bachelor’s degree in home economics. While in Pullman, she manied Glenn B. Rice, a veterinary school student. The marriage ended in divorce alter 20 years. Mrs. Rice worked as a secrev tary at Floors Unlimited until she opened Jennie’s Secretarial Ser— Vice in Kent. She then worked for Boeing, retiring after 15 years in 1996. She was an avid Seattle Marin- ers fan and WSU Cougar alum- nus. She supported historical societies in Kent, Mason and Okanogan counties. She also en- joyed spending time with her grandchildren, Survivors include her brother, John A. MacRae of Shelton; sister Mary M. Koon of Puyallup; chil- dren Cheryl A. Solmonsen, Law- rence G. Rice, David A, Rice, Julie K Owens, Laurie S. Stoneback and Eileen M. Ash; an‘dte’grafid-E children Tanner ‘Glenn Rogers and Glenn Vernon Owens. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, January 3, at Shelton Memorial Park.
