Norma J. Miller retires from Center with honors for ability to solve complex technical issues
Hard work and the ability 10 solve complex
technical issues helped earn the Naval
Weapons Center's Teclinical Director's Award
for Norma J. Miller of the Aircraft Weapons
Integration DeparUnent (Code 31). The award
was presented to Ms. Miller at her recent
retirement banquet by Rich Bruckman, repre-
senting Bill Poner, NWC's Technical Director.
In a leuer nominating Ms. Miller for the
honor, Ed KulChma. head of Code 31, said the
award was "in recognition of her outstanding
contributions 10 radar avionics that have made
her an invaluable asset 10 the Navy and
NWC."
Kutchma added, "she is continuously
sought after for development and review of
radar acquisition specifications, having
brought 10 that field her extensive knowledge
of software development, systems engineering
and systems integration practices."
The letter of commendation from Poner 10
accompany the award read in pari, "You have
earned the respect of your peers both on and
off-Center for your sustained level of excel-
lence and leadership....In addition 10 your
outstanding technical competence, your tal-
ents as a supervisor are outstanding. You have
consistently attracted gifted individuals 10 the
Center and have nonured them inlO national-
ly-recognized scientists and engineers."
For nearly 15 years, Ms. Miller has been a
major contributor to a wide variety of Navy
programs. This has included involvement with
requirements and demonstration/validation
phases of the Naval Advance Tactical Fighter
Program, participation in the national commit-
tee LO form a standard for the Ada Develop-
ment Environments, instructing an NWC-
sponsored class in the Ada language, provid-
ing technical suppon to development of the
mission computer and radar systems on the A-
6F project, formation of the AH-I Systems
Engineering Group and contributions to suc-
cessful development of the A-6E display
capabilities and facilities.
In addition to her technical and superviso-
ral expertise. she has been very active with
contributions 10 the EEO program on-Center.
In 1988 Ms. Miller was named EEO Supervi-
sor of the Year. In his nomination leller,
Kutchma noted she, "has been an EEO coun-
selor for a number of years. ... an active
recruiter and proponem of the junior profes-
sional development program.
The awar~ was presented at the NWC Sea-
farer Club with many of her friends and co-
workers looking on.
