Alice Sabine bought the lot and tent in 1904 and the house was built in 1906. Mi&s Ada B. Pitts, who had lived at 220 18th Street since 1890, bought the house in 1907. She acquired half of the lot next door in 1908 and put up a tent where it remained until at least 1914-the last tent on 16th Street! It was replaced by the garage sometime prior to 1926. The home was purchased by its present owner in 1974. Since that time considerable repair work has been done to make it quite comfortable and liveable, all the while keeping within a school teacher's budget. All plants and trees you see in the yard have been planted since 1974. The owner added an attractive deck and fence in the backyard. as well as a shingled doghouse. This 2-bedroom home seems to have been built of odds-and-ends. During one phase of the recent remodeling it was obvious that inner parts of a wall had been pieced together using partially burned lumber. The back bedroom and bathroom were added during the 1930's. The bathroom is unusual, built entirely of redwood with a lovely counter and its original hardwood floor. Ms. Anton is an avid and prolificquilter. You will see many of her crea- tions about the house. She also has an interesting doll collection. \ O.ov Y- 24 , )9835 7.4.
