THE NEWSLETTER OF THE HERITAGE SOCIETY OF PACIFIC GROVE
THE HERITAGE SOCIETY ANNOUNCES THE POINT
PINOS FUNDRAISER & TOUR
SUNDAY OCTOBER 6, 2013 10AM - 4PM
Join the Heritage Society this autumn on a tour of the
Lighthouse, highlighting the recent improvements, per the
secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation. Also,
tour historic El Carmelo Cemetery, where many of our local and
notable history-makers are in their resting places, such as A. C.
McDougal who lived in the first house built in Pacific Grove in
1874.
There will be docents available at the Lighthouse to answer
your questions as you walk through history inside the Lighthouse,
see what has been done with respect to current renovations and
learn what is still needed. This treasure sitting right here in our
own hometown is worth taking another look at. If you haven’t
visited it in a while you will be pleasantly surprised.
In addition to the Lighthouse tours, there will be walking
tours of the historical parts of the El Carmelo Cemetery and an
open house at the Little Chapel by the Sea. Your ticket to this
event will also allow you to purchase a specially priced
luncheon($15) at Point Pinos Grill (normally $25). And there will
be a silent auction at the Point Pinos Grill.
ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES
Ph.D. Joann Semones, maritime author and historian will be at
our event. She is a published author of: Sea ofTroubles, Hard Luck
Coast and Shipwrecks, Scalawags, and Scavengers. These books will be
available for purchase from her (a portion of the proceeds will go
to the Lighthouse Fund) and she will be signing her copies. She is
currently working on a book about shipwrecks off Pt. Pinos. Also
look for Dr. Semones at one of our upcoming Heritage Society
Lectures. www.GullCottageBooks.com
