Riga}. Pd tee Wokojance Richard Wokojance, 81, died February 5, 2011,_in Shelton, due to complica- tions of lung cancer. He was born to Frank and Billie Mae Wokojance in Lansing, Ohio, on August 11, 1929. Until moving to Shelton in 1942, he and his fam- ily lived mainly in Craig, Col— orado." He' was fond of telling his grand- children of his adven- tures with his friends climbing Riclhard Lee Waikojance what he 24 called “the rim rocks,” or trying to catch \wild horses, or having en- counters with rattlesnakes. After graduating from Irene S. Reed High School in 1947, he joined the Marine Corps in January 1948, and was honorably discharged two years later. On August 14, 1949, he married Feryl Shafer and they shared 62 years to- gether. He was employed at Shel- ton Fiber Board Plant for two years and then began working at the ITT Rayoni- er Research Lab, where he stayed until his retirement in 1992. His family said he en- joyed the outdoors and took them on many camping and hiking trips, teaching them about the outdoors and na- ture. .Much time was spent in the Cascades, Olympic Mountains and one time on a great adventure in the Ca- nadian Rockies. His special joy was his home and making his acre— age into a beautiful park where his family, especially the grandchildren, enjoyed visiting and camping. Ev- eryone remembers his large garden and how much he enjoyed growing his own produce and giving so much away to friends and neigh- bors, even throwing the corn stalks over the fence for the neighbor’s cows who would see him coming and run to the fence for his special handout. His family said he took pride in working hard and was always happy to lend a ‘\ hand to anyone who needed it. He had numerous friends and will be truly missed by many, including his beloved family. He is survived by his wife, Feryl; son Rick (Susan) Wen kojance and their sons, Kelii (Persis) Wokojance, Jacob and Taron; daughter, Terri Craig and her sons Ivon and Tobin; daughter, Kar- en (Dave) Smith and their children, Amy (Jeremy) Ab- bott, Amber (Steve) Egan, Ty Smith; daughter Tracey Driver (Terry) and children Alicea (Isaac) Swett, Ryan Seibold; great granddaugh- ters Ana Kate and Natalie Abbott, and Vivienne and Leala Swett; sister, June McPherson of Mesa, Ariz.; brother Frank Wokojance of Shelton; brother, Rodney Wokojance of Battleground and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Joyce Miller and Ruth Gibson and brother, Jon Wokojance. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, at South Sound Man- or, 455 North St. SE, Tum- water 98501.
