1908 in a cabin
on a lake on the
south side of Bel»
lingham to John
J. and Sadie L.
(Hewitt) Conlin.
Her family or-
igins have been Maybelle
traced to 1634 LaCasse
when her first
American ancestor steppe
ashore at Salem to become one (
the first settlers in the Massaclit
aetts Bay Colonyr
She married George Albert La
Casse on July 6, 1931i They live
in Bellingham for many years
Mr. LaCasse preceded her in
death on October 18, 1980.
As a young woman, she workev
for the Kress Company depart
ment store in downtown Bel
lingham. For more than 50 years
she and halfa dozen other forme
employees of the store wouh
meet monthly as “The Kress Clul
Girls” to recall their years a:
young women working together
WMrs. LaCasse was the last sur
vivor of the group.
Her family said she lived simp
ly and unpretentiously, and tlia‘
her personal shyness underscore(
her strength of character ant
strong sense of right and wrong.
She is remembered for her du
ties to family, skill at crocheting
and ceramics, love for her flower
gardens and many trips as 2
young mother with her children
to gather wild blackberries and
mushrooms.
Mrs. LaCasse was a member 01
the Catholic Church and was a
member of the Altar Society at
her Bellingham church.
She was preceded in death by
her two brothers and two sisters
Survivors include her children;
Francis Gene LaCasse and his
wife Delores of Redwood City,
California, Diane Sue Komen and
her husband John of Grapeview,
and Gayle Joseph LaCasse and
his wife Zeta of Canby, Oregon.
Also surviving are seven
grandchildren and eight great-
grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at
1 pm. Saturday, October 4, at
Greenacres Funeral Home-Memo-
rial Park, 5700 Northwest Drive,
Ferndale. A reception will follow
at Greenacres.
