On Monday, September 15, the
Snohomish County Council is
scheduled to hold interviews and
decide between three nominees to
fill the vacated State Representative
in the 44th District, Position 2.
The Position became open on
July 24 when then State Representa-
tive Mike Hope (R) resigned.
The three nominations from the
GOP Precinct Committee Officers
(PCO), in order are: Mill Creek
Councilmember Mark Harmsworth
(also running for the position in
the upcoming election), Lake Ste-
vens Councilmember Sam Low, and
Doug Roulstone (retired US Navy
Captain).
The appointed nominee will
finish out the current term, until
the general election is certified in
November, at which point, either
Harmsworth (R) or Wilson (D) will
assume the position.
Therefore, the County Council
has a difficult choice as the race be-
tween Harmsworth and Wilson is
close.
The County Council has had to
fill several positions in the past year,
and typically have chosen the first
nominee, but they are not bound by
the PCO’s order of nominees.
The County Council will have to
choose to give the position to the
GOP PCO’s top nominee (Harms-
worth), or move to the next nomi-
