Bear Fire Department wants taxing district
BY LYLE SALL
Fire Chief joe Warner
showed his main piece
of firefighting equipment"
at the Bear Firehouse last
week. The volunteer fire
department has requested
a vote of local residents to
form a tax supported fire
district covering Bear and
Cuprurn areas.
The dangers from wild-
fires, as well as the need to
fight house fires for a large
area in the western part of
the county, is Causing stress
on the ability to respond.
Warner has scheduled
a ballot item to appear
on the November gen»
eral election ballot to
authorize forming the
new district, If the dis—
trict is approved by vot»
ers in November. the
tax levy on property
will be determined after
an operating budget is
approved for 2018.
Warner urges prop—
erty owners to support
the district so fund-
ing can be assured for
maintaining the equip-
ment and supplies for
local fire protection.
The Bear Fire Department has this truck parked in
its firehouse for local firefighting.

Bill Brown wants the busi—
ness plan developed and
finalized before any funds
are committed to the proj-
ect. He wants to use part
of the tipping fee levied
per ton of material as a
royalty payment to Adams
County.
Mike Paradis wants to
use the expense figures
for operating the cur-
rent landfill as a template
for projecting die higher
costs of operating a much
larger landfill. The tipping
fees must cover operating
expenses, maintenance
of equipment, and capital
expenses for the project.

Chamber members to decorate
downtown for July 4th
BY LYLE SAL].
The Highway 95 Bypass
has taken truck traffic oi?
Illinois Avenue in down-
town Council, and now
is our chance to spruce it
up for the World Famous
Porcupine Races on July
4th. The Chamber of
Commerce will be hang»
ing Porcupine Banners
on the existing light poles
along the street, and is
encouraging everyone
with a business along die
street to decorate their
building fronts,
This year’s theme of “An
Old-fashioned Fourth
of July" should inspire
you to add bunting, ban-
ners, and flag displays
all along lllinois Avenue
The weekend will kick oi?
with a grand Family pic-
nic at Boise Cascade Park
and continue through the
Fourth of July, which falls
on Tuesday this year. The
more flags we can hang
out the better.
The Chamber enthusi-
astically endorsed add-
ing a Show and Shine
event to the July Fourth
this year. The cars will
compete in several cat-
egories and will join the
Downtown Parade to
introduce the featured
Porcupine racers for the
day. The organizers asked
for Chamber sponsorship.
