Valley Longtime Mason County resident Chester Simon Valley, 87, died at Saint Peter Hos ital in Olympia January 30 § 1 Mr Valley was born September 26 1898 in New Brunswick Canada. He lived in the Shelton area most of his life, working for Simpson Timber Company for 43 years most of that time in the woods. , He married the former Mary ,Lozier in May 1918, in Shelton. 1 A member of the Skokomish Grange the greatest part of his life, Mr. Valley was for over 35 years the , Grange Insurance agent for the 3 area. He had been an active mem- .ber of the grange drill team for ‘ ‘ many years, and was for years an active member ofthe grange soft- ‘ ball team along with his sons. He participated in at least one state ‘ grange softball championship game. For many years, Mr. Valley was ‘ a member of the Skokomish School District Board of Directors, serving as clerk of the board. ~—H.«~»_.__. A faithful supporter of the, :Skokomish Valley Community “ Church, Mr. Valley did much of the wiring and plumbing and helped with other aspects of the labor on the local community church. He was also an active member of the Shelton First Baptist Church for ‘many years serving as trustee and . usher for 30 years. He was a member of the Skokom— 1 ish Fire Protection District, helping to found the fire district and par- . ticipating in meetings and classes to provide fire protection for Skokom‘ ish Valley residents. Mr. Valley was also a member of Mount Moriah Lodge 11, Free and .Accepted Masons, in Shelton since he was 21 years old. Surviving are his wife, Mary E. Valley of Shelton; two sons, Chester Valley of Seattle and George Valley of Shelton, five grandchildren, 10 Igreat- grandchildren, a great- great- :grandson; two brothers, Ed Aherne jof Yakima and Dwight Valley of 7New Jersey, four sisters, Edna .Hersey of Maine, Almeda Elliott of Springfield, Missouri, Dorothy Sperry of Maine and Naida Parks of Massachusetts. uneral services were held Satur- ternoon, February 1, at First Church in Shelton.
