and a Mason County resident for
68 years, died October 18 in Shel-
ton following a brief series . of
strokes. He was
83.
He was born
September 12,
1921 in Port-
land, Oregon, to
Donovan Pierce

(Swartz) Palmer.
He delivered

He served in
the US. Army Air Forces from
1942 to 1945 and was a corporal
at the time of his discharge.
He married Helen D. Duncan
on July 21, 1951 in Sunnyside.
Mr. Palmer worked for Rayoni-
er for two years and for Andrews
Photo Studio in the darkroom. He

was head of the University of ,
Washington‘s student photogra-
phy group.
He owned and operated Dean’s
Photography Studio in Shelton
from 1948 to 1990, when he re-
tired. He will be remembered as
the “picture man” because he pho-
tographed‘many local people in
school pictures, senior portraits,
weddings, reunions and family
groups, his family said. He was
also photographer for the Wash-
ington State Senate for 10 years.
His memberships included: the
Boy Scouts of America, serving as
scoutmoster for Troop 112 and in
many positions at the adult level
of the Tumwater Scout Council;
the Mason County Democratic
Central Committee; Shelton Ki-
wanis Club; Mason County Com-
munity Concerts; Friends of
Olympic College in Shelton; Pro-
fessional Photographers of Wash-
ington, serving in many offices
and winning numerous awards;
and the United Methodist Church
of Shelton.

Mr. Palmer’s son, Brian D.
Palmer, preceded him in death in
1963.

Palmer of Sacramento, California,
Jeffrey D. Palmer and his wife
Lisa of Santa Rosa, California,
and Christopher D. Palmer of
Port Angeles; brothers Phillip D.
Palmer of Ponce, Puerto Rico, and
V. Dale Palmer and his wife Con—
nie of Altadena, California; step-
g-randdaughter Courtney Boles of
Santa Rosa, California; and nu-
merous nieces, nephews and cou-
sins.
A memorial service has been
scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, No-
vember 5, at the United Method-
ist Church of Shelton, 1900 King
Street. Pastor Bryan White will
officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial do-
nations may be made to Olympic
College Foundation/Shelton, 1600
Chester Avenue, Bremerton,
98337, or to the donor’s favorite
charity, cause or foundation.
