After over three months and
several meetings, the Lake Ste-
vens School District’s Bound-
ary Committee has come up
with the new boundaries for
the District’s seven elementary
schools.
The committee consisted of
parents from the existing six
elementary schools, commu-
nity members and principals
from each of the seven schools.
Graham Cook, Executive Di-
rector of Elementary Teaching
and Learning, led the meet-
ings and other administrators
and board members were at
the meetings to observe and
answer questions, including
School Superintendent Dr.
Amy Beth Cook.
The Boundary Committee
made their decision based on
a plethora of information in-
School District to approve elementary
school boundaries on Jan. 25
cluding future homes being
built and the capacity of each
school.
“We sincerely appreciate the
work of our Boundary Com-
mittee,” said Dr. Amy Beth
Cook, Superintendent of Lake
Stevens School District. “It’s al-
ways challenging to make de-
cisions based on data and not
emotions, and I applaud this
group for their teamwork and
dedication.”
The new boundaries were
presented to the Lake Stevens
School Board at the Board
meeting held on January 11.
The Board will vote to approve
the new boundaries at the Jan-
uary 25 meeting at 6:30 p.m.
which will be held at Hillcrest
Elementary School.
Parents and community
members are encouraged to
review proposed elementary
Students from the Lake
Stevens School District’s en-
gineering classes and their
teachers were excited to share
what they have learned with
Governor Jay Inslee and his
wife during Inslee’s visit to
Cavelero Mid High School on
Friday, January 13.
Inslee was joined by Rep-
resentatives John Lovick and
Mark Harmsworth as well as
school board members, ad-
ministrators and other dig-
nitaries to witness first hand,
how Lake Stevens schools are
being creative in educating
students.
Inslee’s main interests were
finding out more about the
Principles of Engineering
Pathways and STEM opportu-
nities offered to students.
“We were honored to have
Gov. Inslee visit Lake Stevens
School District and Cavelero
Mid High School,” said Dr.
Amy Beth Cook, Superinten-
dent of Lake Stevens School
District. “We appreciate that
