two- -car traffic crash
Two Mason County young
eople were killed in a two-car
collision the intersection of
McEwan Road and the Shelton to
Bremerton railroad tracks Sunday
afternoon.
The dead are Martha Nelson,
16, Route 2, Box 907, Shelton,
and Robert J. Selby, 23, 518
South Eighth, Shelton.
The Washington State Patrol,
which investigated the accident,
said the crash occurred when a car
driven southbound on the railroad
tracks by David Coffey, 23, 1332
Ridgeroad, Shelton, was struck at
the intersection of the railroad
tracks and the county road by an
eastbound vehicle driven by
Kenneth G. Ellison, 16, Route 2,
Box 936, Shelton.
Selby was a passenger in the
Coffey vehicle and Miss Nelson a
passenger in the Ellison vehicle.
The patrol said Coffey was
taken to Mason General Hospital
with severe lacerations to his face.
Hospital authorities said he was
later transferred, in critical
condition, to St. Peter’s Hospital
in Olympia. Hospital authorities
said Wednesday his condition
remained serious. l
Other passengers iii the
Coffey vehicle were Michael l
Miljour, 23, 1776 Stewart Street,
Shelton, who suffered chest and
left ankle injuries, Ronald G}
Anderson, 26, 1014 Cascade,
Shelton, who suffered a fractured
right arm and lacerations and
abrasions to his head.
The patrol said Ellison
suffered severe lacerations to his
face, and another passenger in his
vehicle, David Day, 15, Route 2,
Box 878, Shelton, suffered
lacerations to his head, a
fractured nose and chest injuries.
Both the 1962 Coffey coach
and the 1965 Ellison sedan were
total losses, the patrol reported.
Authorities at Mason General
Hospital said Wednesday Miljour
was still in the hospital and was in
fair condition.
They said Day had been
treated at the hospital and
released Sunday evening.
Ellison and Anderson were
released from the hospital
Tuesday.
Funeral services for Miss
Nelson were held at 3:30 p.m.;
Wednesday at Batstone Funeral
Home with Reverend Kurt
Hardenbrook officiating. Burial
was in Shelton Memorial Park.
She was born March 8, 1957
in Walla Walla and had lived in
Mason County [the past three
years.
She attended Pioneer
Elementary School and Shelton
Junior High School since coming
to Mason County.
Survivors include her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. James C. Nelson,
Shelton; three sisters, Mrs. Sharon
Norton, Coulee Dam, Mrs.
Margaret Stranton, Juneau,
Alaska, and Marie Nelson,
Shelton; one brother, Sam
Nelson, Shelton, and numerous
aunts and uncles.
Funeral services for Mr. Selby
will be held at 11 am. today at
Batstone Funeral Home with
Reverend Gilbert Skaar
officiating. Burial will be in
Shelton Memorial Park.
He was born July 2, 1942 in
Walla Walla and had been a
resident of Shelton the past .11
years. At the time of his death, he
was a machinist trainee at
Certified Manufacturing
Company.
Survivors include his mother,
Mrs. Charlotte Selby, Shelton;
one brother, Steven Selby,
BeaVerton, Oregon, and his father,
Harlan Joy, Portland, Oregon.
