Disc Golf is becoming one
of the fastest growing sports
in America and according
to TreeHugger.com, over 12
million people have tried the
game since its inception in the
1970s. Over the years regular
“ball” golf has been on the de-
cline while “disc” golf is on the
rise.
One of the reasons for this
golf phenomenon is that a
round of regular ball golf can
take hours out of your day,
while disc golf can take less an
hour.
It’s also much less expensive
than golf because of the up-
keep and cost of a regular golf
course, which then the players
incurs the cost of green fees to
pay for. Disc golf can be played
within almost any landscape,
including in the trees. Simply

Lake Stevens is lucky to have
their very own disc gold course
in the trees next to Mount Pil-
chuck Elementary School on
20th St. NE in downtown Lake

While many teens and adults
in town have tried the sport,
not many have made it as far
at 18-year-old AJ Demary, who
started playing on that very
field only four short years ago.
“I started playing disc golf in
June of 2011 and immediately
became hooked,” Demary said.
By January of 2012, he was
competing in the Freeze in the
Trees tournament in Lake Ste-
vens and before he knew it he
was offered a sponsorship by a
disc maker.
