Harstine Island lost a friendly
helper when Bob Ireland died April
5 at Capital Medical Center in
Olympia.
Bob became an islander by mar-
rying Elaine Wingert 27 years ago,
He loved his family and spending
time with them. He was produce
manager for Food Depot before it
became Stock Market Foods and
continued to work in produce there
and other locations until an injury
caused him to retire,
Bob enjoyed living on the island.
He became a member of the Hair
stine Island Grange and loved to
participate in grange events. He
was also a member of the Harstine
Community Club, and he and
Elaine were regulars at the farm-
ers’ market on the island.
\IT WAS SAID that Bob never
met a stranger, and he was always
there for anyone in need, lendinga
helping hand. His enthusiasm for
people always showed.
Survivors on the island include
his wife, Elaine; his mother, Alma
Ireland; his daughter, Sheila
Newell; and sons Warren and Rob-
bie. Sons Rob and J eff live in Sedro
Woolley, and son Brian lives in
Shelton. He also had six grandchil-
dren.
Ladies ofthe Church of God as-
sisted the ladies of the Harstine Isv
land Women’s Club in providing
the luncheon after his burial at the
Harstine Island Cemetery on
Tuesdaflh
