Members Corner
Pat Tostevin thought these three books might be of interest to the membership.
• How Our Ancestors Died: A Guide for Family Historians by Simon Wills.
• The Unofficial Family Archivist: A Guide to Creating and Maintaining Family Papers, Photographs, and
Memorabilia by Melissa Mannon.
• On Your Own – How to Design and Construct A Family History Book to Inform and Captivate Readers by
Elayne and Stephen Denker.
I put these books on my winter reading list.
• Saxons, Vikings, and Celts: The Genetic Roots of Britain and Ireland by Bryan Sykes
• The Seven Daughters of Eve by Bryan Sykes
• America and the Tintype by Steven Kasher
Pat has also provided a write up of a recent experience she had and wanted to share it with the membership. I very glad
she did.
In a small shop in Allyn I found a stack of letters with a sign reading, WWII Love Letters, 4/$1.00.
Immediately, my genealogy radar went on alert. WWII love letters! Who wrote them, where did they come from,
and how could the family part with them?
Unfortunately, I wasn’t the first to find them and the storeowner and her assistant told of all the
interesting things people had planned to do with the letters. Decoupage, background papers for a scrapbook,
paper decorations, altered books, etc. Apparently, they had sold many of them before I got there.
