Del Monte Company
Removes Eyesore
Workmen during the past week
have wrecked the old building at
the corner of Fountain avenue and
High street which formerly housed
the local office of the Monterey
County Water Works. It also had
served as the headquarters for the
Del Monte Properties company's
engineering department at one
time.
The building was one of the first
erected in Pacific Grove and was
used in various official capacities
for many years. Of late, however, it
had become an eye-sore and its re-
moval was brought about by pro-
tests from local business interests.
Del Monte officials announced
this week that no plans have as
yet been rnade for any future de-
velopment of the property.
will be hardwood floors.
Estimated cost of the house and
accompanying garage is given at
$3000.
The other permit was issued to
E. R. Stalter to install a concrete
foundation under the house at 306
Fourteenth street, belonging to E.
Gern. The work is already near
completion. The estimated cost is
$200.

Laying of curb and gutter for the
new Central avenue extension pro-
ject will get under way soon, ac-
cording to City Manager Erwin
Dames, who is rapidly completing
the plans, in his capacity as city
engineer.
All of the property for the pro-
ject has been acquired with the
single exception of the house at
Sixteenth and Grove streets. It is
expected that condemnation pro-
ceedings will be brought to secure
it.
According to City Manager
Dames, an investigation will be
made of the "natural asphalt" pav-
ing used by the state highway de-
partment on the new Los Gatos-
Santa Cruz highway and secured
near Santa Cruz. It is possible that
this material may be used on the
local project.
