Moon Crash, A Check For Recreation
Orbiting Films
Planned byClub
Two films, one giving the
sensation of crashing on the
Moon and one explaining the
motion of a Moon - orbiting
spacecraft, will be seen at the
meeting of the China Lake As-
tronomical Society on Monday,
November 7, at 7:30 p.m. in
the Society's clubhouse at 401
McIntire Street.
The first film includes pic-
tures taken by all six cameras
of Ranger 7. The second film,
"Celestial Mechanics," s how s
by animation the laws of plan-
etary motion and how they ap-
ply to a Lunar Orbiter. The
public is invited to view these
films and to discuss current
astronomical events.

$5,000 CHECK - Capt_ Robert Williamson II, NOTS Exec-
utive Officer, endorses the action as William E. Davis, Chair-
man, Employee Services Board, presented a $5,000 check
to Cdr_ A_ H. Murray. Chairman. Joint Navy - Civilian Re-
creation Council this week. This wa. the first of funds
from the Employee Services Board given. to help support
the Station', recreation program. With the civilians priv-
ilege to patronize Navy Exchange and Commissary Store
adivities being withdrawn, the Employee Services Boord
is a, sum i n 9 those operations. Von's Supermarket and
Thompson's Cobbler Service have been established and the
Berber. Beauty, Laundry and Dry CI....ing. and Child Care
Center Mrvice. are in process of being operated by the
ESB_ With the _rations the ESB will provide support to

of the local Chapter of the Cal-
ifornia Society of Engineers to

Fogarty will speak on "Nu-
clear Power and Water Desalt-
ing." His subject will cover the
new nuclear-powered water de-
salting plant to be built at New-
port Beach.
The plant is being b u i I t
through the cooperative efforts
of the Edison Co., the Metro-
politan Wa t e r District, the
City of Los Angeles, and the
Federal Government.
Power generated at the plant
will be sold to the Edison Co.
and to the City.
Power generated at the plant

ter District will purchase the
water processed at the plant.

NOTS' "Bluejacket of The
Year" for 1966.

League sponsored the banquet
and ceremonies of that even-
ing, held in conjunction with
the nationwide observance of
the Navy's 191st birthday on
Navy Day, the day before, Oct.
27. Milford C. Carlson, presi-
dent of the local League, open-
ed the ceremonies, and LCdr.
Lew Shults, USN (Ret.), League
secretary, served as Master of
Ceremonies. Elliott Fox, Ridge-
crest City Councilman, and
Vice-Mayor, represented May-
or Kenneth M. Smith at the
gathering. Members of the
NOTS Command also attended.
The sole bachelor among the
ten Bluejackets of the Month
in consideration for the honor,
John Brockwell was chosen by
a seven-member panel of sen-
ior officers representing NOTS
Enlisted Division, the N a val
Air Facility and Air Develop-
ment Squadron Five.
The Hospital Corpsman re-
ceived from Ralph G. Nuckolls,
president of the Ridge-
crest Chamber of Commerce,
various gifts from the city's
merchants. On behalf of th e
Indian Wells Valley Chapter of
the Navy League, Milford Carl-
son presented him with a gift
of $200. Brockwell will a Iso
enjoy a week's vacation in Las
Vegas, where he will be the
guest of the Navy League chap-

ing a flight on Bonanza Air
Lines to the Grand Canyon for
sightseeing.

six women honored by the Cal-
ifornia State Business and Pro-
fessional Women's Clubs re-
cently at the Newporter Inn,
Newport BeaCh, California.

The Women of Achievement
honors were presented during
the San Orco District BPW Fall
Conference. Marion O'Brien,
State Personnel Development
Chairman, read the honors and
introduced the recipients to Dr.
Sa r a h Cunningham, National
President of BPW, who made
her only official visit to Cali-
fornia_on October 22. Plaques
were given the six women who
represented six different busi-
ness and professional disci-
plines.
Dr. "Peggy" Rogers was se-
lected for her achievement in
science and government.
Her many awards comprise
Woman of the Year A war d
for 1965, presented by China
Lake BPW; Kiwanis Club Citi-
zen of the Month, March 1965;
and the Kern County 4-H Clubs
five-year Service and Leader-
ship Award.
In 1965, Dr. Rogers was the
U.S. Navy's candidate for the
Federal Women's Award. She
was selected through the three
services and c h 0 sen the De-
partment of Defense candidate.
In 1966, she received the L.
T. E. Thompson Award fro m
NOTS.
High Civilian Award
In July 1966, she was pre-
sented by Mr. R. A. Beaumont,
Deputy Secretary of the Navy
for Manpower, the Navy Supe-
rior Civilian Service Award.

salting plant to be built at New-
port Beach.
The plant is being b u i I t
through the cooperative efforts
of the Edison Co., the Metro-
politan Wa t e r District, the
City of Los Angeles, and the
Federal Government.
Power generated at the plant
will be sold to the Edison Co.
and to the City.
Power generated at the plant
will be bought by the Edison
Co. and the City of Los Ange-
les while the Metropolitan Wa-
ter District will purchase the
water processed at the plant.
More than 8,550,000 Ameri-
cans are signed up under the
Payroll Savings Plan for the

NOTS' "Bluejacket of The
Year" for 1966.

League sponsored the banquet
and ceremonies of that even-
ing, held in conjunction with
the nationwide observance of
the Navy's 191st birthday on
Navy Day, the day before, Oct.
27. Milford C. Carlson, presi-
dent of the local League, open-
ed the ceremonies, and LCdr.
Lew Shults, USN (Ret.), League
secretary, served as Master of
Ceremonies. Elliott Fox, Ridge-
crest City Councilman, and
Vice-Mayor, represented May-
or Kenneth M. Smith at the
gathering. Members of the
NOTS Command also attended.
The sole bachelor among the
ten Bluejackets of the Month
in consideration for the honor,
John Brockwell was chosen by
a seven-member panel of sen-
ior officers representing NOTS
Enlisted Division, the N a val
Air Facility and Air Develop-
ment Squadron Five.
The Hospital Corpsman re-
ceived from Ralph G. Nuckolls,
president of the Ridge-
crest Chamber of Commerce,
various gifts from the city's
merchants. On behalf of th e
Indian Wells Valley Chapter of
the Navy League, Milford Carl-
son presented him with a gift
of $200. Brockwell will a Iso

Vegas, where he will be the
guest of the Navy League chap-

As Bluejacket of the Year,
HM2 Brockwell will drive to
Las Vegas in a new car pro-
vided jointly by Hertz and Hu-
cek's Travel Center in Ridge-
crest. He'll check in at the Sa-
hara Hotel there for a week's
vacation on the town, includ-
ing a flight on Bonanza Air
Lines to the Grand Canyon for
sightseeing.

Bestows Honor
On Dr. Rogers
Dr. Marguerite Rogers, Head
Weapons Systems Analysis Di-
vision in the Weapons Develop-
ment Department, was one of
six women honored by the Cal-
ifornia State Business and Pro-
fessional Women's Clubs re-
cently at the Newporter Inn,
Newport BeaCh, California.

Makes Award
The Women of Achievement
honors were presented during
the San Orco District BPW Fall
Conference. Marion O'Brien,
State Personnel Development
Chairman, read the honors and
introduced the recipients to Dr.
Sa r a h Cunningham, National
President of BPW, who made
her only official visit to Cali-
fornia_on October 22. Plaques
were given the six women who
represented six different busi-
ness and professional disci-
plines.
Dr. "Peggy" Rogers was se-
lected for her achievement in
science and government.
Her many awards comprise
Woman of the Year A war d
for 1965, presented by China
Lake BPW; Kiwanis Club Citi-
zen of the Month, March 1965;
and the Kern County 4-H Clubs
five-year Service and Leader-
ship Award.
In 1965, Dr. Rogers was the
U.S. Navy's candidate for the
Federal Women's Award. She
was selected through the three
services and c h 0 sen the De-
partment of Defense candidate.
In 1966, she received the L.
T. E. Thompson Award fro m
NOTS.
High Civilian Award
In July 1966, she was pre-
sented by Mr. R. A. Beaumont,
Deputy Secretary of the Navy
for Manpower, the Navy Supe-
rior Civilian Service Award.
