Andrew “Andy" Watz, who
started working in the logging
business when he was 18, died
Wednesday, July 30, in his Shel-
ton home of heart-related illness.
He was 63.
He was born September 4,
1933, in Port Townsend to Adam
and Anna (Morgansky) Watz. He
attended Quilc’e’ne'Higmfil."
He married Myrtle I. (Elliott)
Watz in May 1956, in Seattle.
Mr. Watz worked for Buck
Mountain Logging and bought an
old skidder from the firm and
started Andy’s Logging Company
in 1957. He then worked for JX
Logging Company owned by Hal—
dane Johnson.
He went into partnership with
his son, Dusty Watz, and in 1984
purchased JX Logging Company.
They changed the name to JX
Construction and from that time
to the present did road main-
tenance and watershed restora-
tion work for the US. Forest Ser-
vice in Hoodsport and Simpson
Timber Company.
He enjoyed the outdoors, hard
work, his vacation home at Ocean
Shores and spending quiet time
with his pet cats and dogs, He
had lived in Shelton for 20 years
and in the Quilcene area for 44
years.
He is survived by wife Myrtle I.
Watz of Shelton; sons Ronald Eu-
gene (Gene) Watz of Quilcene,
Dusty L, Watz of Shelton and
Timothy W. Watz of Shelton; and
daughters Crystal Schryver and
Rocsanna S. Reed, both of Quil-
cene.
Also surviving are his mother-
in-law Laura M. Elliott of Quil-
cene and 13 grandchildren: Laura
R, and Jennefer L, Watz of Quil-
cene, Angela L. and Jake Schryv-
er of Quilcene, Nichole I. and
Ryan C. Watz and Jessica and
Christina Stacy of Shelton, Jere-
my and Justine A. Reed of Quil~
cene, Holly M. Manso of Port An-
geles, and Heather and Andrew
K. Watz of Shelton.
A memorial service was held
Saturday, August 2, at Hope
Chapel in Shelton. Elder Harry
Elliott officiated, lnurnment was
on August 2 at the Quilcene Cem-
etery in Quilcene.
