(Steehler) Kimes
Jane Kimes of Seattle passed
away on April 9, 2007 with her
family by her side. She lived
a tremendous life of love and
caring for her family, service
to her community, and support
and close bonds with friends.
Jane had a giving heart, a fun
and positive spirit, and selfless
dedication to others.
Born December 24, 1935 to
Edith & Stuart Steehler in Deer Lodge, Montana, Jane
spent her childhood there and in Shelton and Bremerton
Washington. Jane was active in the Order of the Rain-
bow Girls while attending Reed High School. She earned
a BS degree in Occupational Therapy and worked as a
therapist for Children’s Hospital. In 1963 she married Lu»
cas Kimes. Jane volunteered extensively for PTA’s, Girl
Scouts, Boy Scouts and Camp Fire USA to support her
kids’ activities with those organizations, as well as for the
Southeast Seattle Senior Center, Children’s Home Society
of Washington (where she was awarded a distinguished
service citation) and other community organizations.
Jane and her husband Luke had a wonderful life to-
gether love for each other and everyone around them. In
retirement, they enjoyed making artistic things together,
RVing and traveling throughout the US, Australia, New
Zealand, Mexico, England and South Africa. Jane was in-
credibly talented at crafts and needlework. She loved win-
ters in Arizona, bright colors, sunny days, soaring eagles,
the ocean, craft shows, collecting tiny teddy bears to rep-
resent her grandkids, and keeping family mementos, his-
tory, art and photos carefully stored or displayed.
Jane is survived by her husband of 44 years Lucas J
Kimes (retired Boeing engineer), children David Kimes
and wife Sheryl, Susan Trower and husband Tandy, Pe-
ter Kimes and wife Sun Min, Lori Cullinan and husband
Jim, Jan Milligan and husband Doug, grandchildren Jeff,
Katy, Emily, Mina, Isaac, Elizabeth, Madeline and Sa-
mantha, dear friend Karen Doran, and many other friends
and family. She was preceded in death by her parents and
brother Gordon Steehler.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances are suggested to Se-
attle Parks Foundation for the Jane Kimes Bench to be
placed alongside Lake Wash Blvd S, or the Southeast Se-
attle Senior Center (Senior Services). A memorial service
and reception to honor this beautiful woman’s life will be
held at the Southeast Seattle Senior Center, 4655 So Holv
ly St, Seattle on Saturday April 28 at 11:00 am.
