City council on Tuesday,
Dec. 8, brought a full house of
well-wishers to the Lake Ste-
vens School District’s Educa-
tional Services Center.
Newly elected mayor John
Spencer was sworn into office
along with newly elected coun-
cilmembers Rauchel McDaniel
and Kurt Hilt and re-elected
councilmember Todd Welch.
Spencer assured the crowd
that his years in office will be
productive years.
“We’re going to work to make
Lake Stevens an even better
place to live,” he said. “Lake
Stevens really is the greatest
place in Washington to live.”
Councilmembers Sam Low
and Marcus Tageant are excited
to see what is in store for the city
and a new mayor at the helm.
“John will be a great mayor,”
Tageant said.
“I’m looking forward to
working with the new mayor,”
Low said.
The city council also thanked
outgoing Mayor Vern Little and
councilmember Suzanne Quig-
ley for their years of service.

wrestling season is underway,
and a young Vikings team start-
ing seven underclassmen is
looking to improve on their run-
ner-up finish at state last year.

Lake Stevens High School wrestling kicks off season
The Vikings return three state
placers:three-timestatechampi-
on Michael Soler at 170 pounds,
state runner-up Jake Douglas at
145 pounds, and 7th-place Trys-
ten Perales at 152 pounds. State
participant Malachi Lawrence
also returns at 160 pounds.
The team traveled to Sydney,
Montana, for the Sidney Eagle
Invitational on Dec. 4 and 5.

Cavelero Mid High students and families raised $2,069.57 for the Lake Stevens Food Bank
Building Fund. The week long drive, spearheaded by the Leadership Class, and led by
teachers Josh Fountain and Stewart Chaffe, was hampered by a closed school day due to
electricity outage, so the campaign was completed in four days. Mrs. Asprey’s 8th grade
science class, won the class competition, and contributed over $1,300 plus 300 canned
food items. Food Bank President, Mitch Robinson, was presented with a big check at the
school wide assembly.
