Here 's pie

This year, there will be two pie
eating contests,
In addition to the.usual contest
for children, Pacific Grove's fire
and police departments will
compete against each other (at
10:45 a.m. in the BofA parking
lot) for prizes and the dubious
honor of being able to wolf down
the most cream pje in the least
time.
So far, the lineup looks like
this: Richard (Lunch Bucket)
Muniz and Greg Glass will
compete for the fire department
against Terry Chandler and Bill
Kennedy for the police depar-
tment.
While the fire department has
a proven winner in LT Richard
Muniz, who earned the nickname
"Lunch Bucket" when he tied for
first place with PG's Susan
Kadlee in the first annual san-
dwich eating contest held last
September to benefit Jaws of
Life, the police department's
team cart be counted on to give
them a run for their money.
Volunteer Fireman Gary
Clayk, in recalling the earlier
contest (which his La Casa
Bodega Delicatessen sponsored),
remembered that the Marina
Fire Department made a good
showing, taking first place in the
team division, and wondered if
they might be up to the challenge
of another chow down.
The children's contest, to
begin about 11 a.m. in the BofA
parking lot, will be divided into
three levels - for elementary,
junior and high school aged
children. The youngsters will eat
their way through a variety of
pies for a variety of prizes, in-
cluding $10 gift certificates for
Holman's and tickets for
Marriott's Great America.
According to Anne Castro,
inangger of the PG Chamber of
Commerce which is sponsoring
the Good Old Days celebration,
the pie eaters ean be expected to
go through 70-plus pies, which
will be supplied by the Chamber.
There is still plenty of time for
children to enter the contest.
Entry blanks can be picked up at
the Chamber office or at the
schools.
