Elmer William Manke, 73, of
Shelton, died Saturday, January
7.
.He was born April 26, 1910 in
Selby, South Dakota, and had
been a wheat farmer there for
a number of years prior to com-
ing to the Shelton area in 1934‘
ML Manke was the founder of
Manke Lumber Company,
where he worked until his
semi-retirement 13 years ago.
He had worked actively in
the logging, lumber and Christ-
mas tree businesses and was a
member of Saint Edward’s
Catholic Church.
Survivors are his wife
Dorothy; daughters Bernice
“Bunny" Orr of Shelton, Arlene
Bac of Shelton and Judith Byme
of Kennewick; sons Charles,
Virgil and Larry Manke of
Shelton, James Manke of
Tacoma and Ray Manke of
Puyallup; brothers Virgil
Manke of Anaheim, California,
John Manke of Alhambra, Cali-
fornia, and Marvin Manke of
Selby; sisters Wilda Bray and
Evelyn Flynn of Glendale. Cali-
fornia, Helen Miller of Bur-
bank, California, and Verna
Schanzenbach of Rapid City,
South Dakota; 26 grand-
children; and 11 great-grand-

An evening vigil service was
Tuesday, January 10, followed
by a Mass of Christian Burial
the next day at Saint Edward's
Catholic Church, Father Kieran
Cunningham, OSB, officiated
and burial was in Shelton
Memorial Park,
Arrangements were under
the direction of McComb and
Batstone Funeral Home
