VOL 26 NO 6 The China Laker Hewlett-Packard Company President’s Message by Bob Campbell Dec 2021 We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy 2022! We had such a great time at the 20th Annual Dinner Auction, it was like the “good old days” getting together again. Our new Gift Shop Manager Allie Winterly played “Vanna White”, part of her new skill set. Thanks to everyone who contributed, as it was a real boost to our ability to continue our mission and vision. The profits exceeded $86,000 and some donations continue to arrive. The funds will be used to complete our Phase II Building and help support daily operations expenses. I think you will appreciate the perspective written by John DiPol about China Lake included in this newsletter. I found this writing in our archives and decided it was worth sharing, as it was clearly from John’s heart. John was one of the original Directors to the CLMF and was an ardent supporter of preserving and sharing the history of the NOTS/NWC and Ridgecrest community. His career was as a “Range Rat” and pivotal leader in the continued evolution of the Ranges to meet the past and future challenges. The New Year brings many challenges. We are moving to a Calendar Year Membership billing to simplify office procedures and save money. For those who recently paid your Membership, consider this an extension of your Membership year. For others who paid during the year and it’s a hardship for you, send what you can afford of next year’s Membership payment when you receive your bill and we will call it done. I hope you all agree with our progress as we move ahead with the new building project. The building materials have arrived, and the grading has started, however, we continue to wait for final permits from the County before we can begin the erection of the building. We are looking forward to the relocation of the remaining exhibits and many stories from the Base Museum site once the building is complete. THANKS for your continued support as it invigorates those of us working to make this Museum a successful component of Ridgecrest. If you have year-end contributions from your IRA you can afford to donate, it becomes a tax-free donation and makes such a difference to our progress. We will include your donations as we update our Business Donor Board, Legacy Donor Board for cumulative donations, and Building Founders/Benefactors Donor Board in the Museum as appropriate.
