Johnston died shortly after noon last Monday morning in a Grove hospital, ,following a brief illness. During the past several years, how- ever, the man had been subject to oc- casional periods of atute sickness. Funeral services were conducted by members of the Pacific Grove Ma- sbnic lodge, assisted by Rev. Albert E. Clay. , Johnston was 64 years old at the time of his death. At the clcse of an active life he was still. serving as manager of the Pacific Grove branch af. the Bank of America. Enters Bank Business .It *was 40 years ago that Johnston, accompanied by his brother Charles, Arst came to Pacific Grove. When he entered ·the transfer business at th/t time, he began his long and influ- ential career in the commercial and public life of Monterey Peninsula.
