State's first buffalo
born in Pebble Beach
From the Pacific Grove Review, May 30, 1891:
-A straw ride is made to Pebble Beach with a dozen people. A four
horse double wagon is used.
-The soda fountain at the grocery explodes.
-Chinese fishermen are drying large number of squid.
-What is known as the picnic kiss is coming into great popularity in
the Grove. It is the long, last, lingering kind, like pulling a gum boot out of
adobe mud in a wet winter.
-There was a large attendance at the skating rink on opening night.
-I respectfully request that the person that borrowed my gray
overcoat from the office will return it immediately.
-The bath house at the foot of Forest is said to be in miserable shape
and a standing opportunity for Peeping Toms.
-At B.C. Winston's Buffalo Park, Pebble Beach, there can be seen the
first baby buffalo born in the State of California. It is now about 10 days old
and is in perfeet health. It has been named Duchess Del Monte.
P.G. Review - May 9-23, 1891
The Pacific Grove baseball club is now to be known as the REVIEWS in
honor of the paper.
-Look out for Berg's newly painted wagon which will call at your door and
leave 25 loaves of the very best bread for one dollar.
