WILLIAM T. TAYLOR has been elected chairman of the board
of ACE Industries, Incorporated, effective April 1, Charles J.
Hardy, Jrv former chairinan, announced recently. Mr. Taylor,
who is now vice president and a director of Bankers Trust
Company, has been a director of ACE since 1952. Mr. Hardy
will continue as chairman of the execulive commillee and as

a member of the board of directors.
Both James F. Clark, ACF's presidenl, and the new chair-
man will be responsible directly lo the board of directors;
Mr. Clark for the company's operations and management and
M.r. Taylor for policy and planning.
Mr. Hardy said he had nominated Mr. Taylor lo succeed
him in keeping wilh his plans for the long-range interests of
the company. He said he desired lo devote more of his own
time to personal mallers.
Mr. Taylor has severed his connection as an officer of Bank-
ers Trust, but will continue lo serve on its board of directors.
His 30-year banking career includes service as president of
the Union Trust Company of Springfield, Mass., as vice presi-
denl of The Guaranty Trust Company of New York, and as
vice cllairman of the Commercial National Bank and Trusl
Company of New York. He is a direclor and member of the
executive commillee of both Adams Express Company and
American International Corp., and is a director of the First
National Bank in Greenwich, Conn. He is a past president of
the New York Slale Bankers Association.
Mr. Hardy ioined ACE in 1944 as vice p.resident and direc-
tor, coming from the law flrm then known as Hardy, Stan-
clifFe and Hardy (now Hardy, Peale, Barker and Rawlings),
counsel lo ACE Industries. He was elected executive vice
presidenl in 1946, president in 1947 and chairman in August,
1 954.

First conceived in 1950 at the Naval
Ordnance Test Station, China Lake,
California, it became known as, the
Sidewinder.
The Department of the Navy an-
nounced recently that this new air-to-
ail missile was "operational" and on
bo`ard fleet units at sea. Navy squad-
rons possessing Sidewinder capabili-
ties have since been deployed with
the U. S. Sixth Fleet in the Mediter-
ranean area and with the U. S. Sev-
