Manalo
D eynaldo Valentin Manalo, a
n self-employed tourguide,
died Friday at Stanford Medical
Center. He was 51.
Born Feb. 2, 1949, in Manila
the Philippines, he lived in
Marina for nine years.
A basketball fan, he also
enjoyed swimming and scuba
diving.
Mr. Manalo was a member of
St. Francis Xavier Church in
Seaside.
He is survived by his wife,
Emy; a son, Raymond Manalo of
Marina; a daughter, Ruby
Manalo of Marina; his molher,
Veronica Manalo of Seaside; four
brothers, Fernando Manalo of
Marina, Sal Manalo of Phoenix,
Mike Manalo of Pacifica, and Leo
Manalo of Manila; two sisters,
Letty Blagtas of Manila and Alicia
Manalo of Seaside; and two
grandchildren.
VIsitation will be from 4 to 7
p.m. today at the Chapel of
Seaside with a vigil to follow at
the mortuary chapel. Mass will be
celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at
St. Francis Xavier Church.

Ruth Getz o
0 uth Murray Getz, former
11 owner of meat markets in
Pacific Grove and Carmel Valley,
died Friday in SunBridge
Healthcare Center in Monterey.
She was 93.
Born in Petaluma on May 30,
1906, she was moved to Pacific
Grove as an infant and graduated
from Pacific Grove High School
with the class of 1924.
She was a member of the first
Girl Scout troop formed in Pacific
Grove in 1920 and was active as a
scout leader and camp counselor
for more than 50 years. The
Monterey Bay Girl Scout Council
presented Mrs. Getz a special
award in 1970 to recognize her
long years of service.
Mrs. Getz and her late
husband, Robert, owned and
operated the Central Meat
Market in Pacific Grove until
1956, then opened Getz Meats in
Carmel Valley. They retired in
1971 and moved to Arizona, but
Mrs. Getz moved back to the
Monterey Peninsula 10 years
ago.
She was a member of the
CarmelValley Chapel and its
Women's Guild, St Mary's
Episcopal Church in Pacific
Grove and the Pebble Pups
chapter of the Carmel Valley
Gem and Mineral Society.
She is survived by three
daughters, Jean Himmah of
Diamond Springs, Myrna Meyer
of Monterey and Kathleen Lutes
of Carmel Valley; a brother,
Russell Murray of Rancho
Cordova; nine grandchildren and
17 great-grandchildren. Her
husband, Robert, died in 1975.
In keeping with her request
no services have been planned.
The Paul Mortuary is in charge
of cremation.
The family suggests that any
memorial contributions be sent
to the donor's favorite charity.
