David Waite
On November 17,
2016, David Waite,
peacefully stepped away f
from a life well—lived,
surrounded and sup—
ported by his beloved
family in his Shelton
home. BOrn and raised
on Harstine Island with
his two brothers and
sister, David’s presence
and work will continue
to have a lasting impact
on this community and
a“ who knew him.
10, 1941‘ in Shelton,
Washington to George
and Maxine Waite. The
growing family enjoyed
an active, often adven-
turous childhood on
Harstine, participating
in many outdoor and wa-
ter activities. Motorcycle
racing was a family pas-
. sion and his aptitude for
racing resulted in David
competing in the sport as
a professional. Following
graduation from Shelton
High School in 1966,
David continued to wOrk
and race before entering
the US. Army during
the Viet Nam War. He
honorably served his
country as Sergeant E-5
with the C Battery, 2nd
Battalion, 319th Artil-
lery.
Upon his return to
SheltOn in the early
19703, David worked
with several builders
introducing innovative
construction techniques
to Mason County. As
David, started his family,
he founded his own busi-
ness, Waite Construc-
tion, in 1977. David

remained in the con-
, struction field through-
out his career, building
residential homes and
commercial structures
with pride and efficiency.
As his own family grew
to include twosons and
two daughters, he ac-
tively supported and en-
couraged their interests
including motorcycle rac-
ing, skiing, equestrian
and water sports, and
art. A hands-on father,
David traveled with his
family throughout the
country supporting his
children’s activities and
visiting family. Although
diagnosed with brain
cancer that eventually
shortened his life, David
always looked forward .
7 and lived an active, pro—
ductive life. ‘
David met the love of
his life, Cheryl Weston,
and spent twelve won-
derful years tOgether.
' Seven of those years
were spent living, work- 7
ing, and playing in An-
chorage, Alaska. David
and Cheryl married in ,
2011 and following his
retirement, returned
to live in Shelton. He
thoroughly enjoyed and
loved his immediate
and extended family
his strength and quick
wit. David is survived
by his wife Cheryl Wes-
ton Waite, children Ga—
briel Waite (Lisa), Julia
White (Chad), Chris
Waite, BriAnne Waite,
and Kelly Weston. He.
was predeceased by his
mother Maxine. He. is
survived by his father
George Waite, sister -
Cindy Waite, brothers
Ed and Bill Waite, four
grandchildren, and nu-
merous nieces, nephews
and cousins.
