Read more on page 6 SEE LORENTZEN ON page 2 The Lake Stevens High School wrestling team won the 2016 4A team title — the team’s eleventh state champi- onship — by having a tourna- ment performance that even the team itself couldn’t have expected. Lake Stevens, which was ranked behind Moses Lake go- ing into the tournament, sent eight wrestlers to the tour- nament, and seven of them placed. This was enough to edge out Moses Lake 121-103 in a team race that came down to the final matches. The biggest moment of the night was Lake Stevens’s Mi- chael Soler taking his 4th indi- vidual title over returning state champion Hudsen Mauseth of Lake Stevens Wrestling wins tenth team title, Soler takes 4th individual title RORY DOUGLAS Moses Lake at 170 pounds. Soler got out to an early lead in the first round and never looked back, winning by a fi- nal score of 14-6. Soler became the first wrestler to win four state titles in the 4A division, and joins Burke Barnes as Lake Stevens’s second four-timer. Senior Trysten Perales put together a string of close vic- tories in a tough 145-pound weight class to take home his first individual title. After winning with a last-second takedown in the quarterfinals, Perales notched a victory in overtime in the semifinals be- fore beating freshman James Rogers in the finals by a score of 5-2. On Friday, Feb. 26 commu- nity members and fellow of- ficers gathered to pay tribute to their friend and mentor at a reception held at the Lake Ste- vens Fire District. The room was filled to ca- pacity with folks even standing outside to hear all of the acco- lades attributed to Lorentzen and tell him thank you for a job well done. Police chiefs from every city in the county were there to show their appreciation for the collaborative efforts Lorentzen has made in behalf of law en- forcement all over Snohomish County. Everett Police Chief Dan Templeton explained how Dan led a significant effort to col- laborate on burglaries together. “And now in North Snohom- ish County there is one group of people wearing all sorts of Community honors Chief Lorentzen as he says goodbye uniforms working collabora- tively together and to no sur- prise we have quadrupled the amount of success we have,” Everett Police Chief Dan Tem- pleton said. “My hope is that your leadership will continue however you want it to be.” “I always know that I can go and talk to Dan and that he and his staff would address any issue right away. I always felt safe and comfortable know- ing that Dan was at the head of this department,” Templeton said. “I’m certainly going to miss that.
