This Pacific Grove cottage, built in 1909, is a board and batten,

single wall construction, redwood cottage. H.Earle of Sacramento,
built this cottage on a 30x60 foot lot as a summer home, wht·e# 20
·es-a--99..me-pir·aee. into the 1930 ' s. Gr**ine**y--tr-two-
ree--hettie, steep staircase, attic bedrooms, a bathroom off the
kitchen and garage were added sometime after 1914;t3-0 -6£- t44 UJU .,»V-...
Eileen and Mariano Catbagan purchased this cottage in 1977 and
have been restoring it since. As you enter the living room, the
bookcage on the right is a converted Murphy Bed space. The small
fireplace was added prior to the garage addition. The staircase
leads to the small attic bedrooms. Watch your hand as you go
up the *tairs.
Upon entering the kitchen, you will find a pleasing combination
of modern conveniences and the original cupboards and wainscoted
walls.
The library, initially *he garage then a bedroom, was the last
room to be completed. The tall wall on the left is the original
exterior wall of the cottage. The entire room is given a larger
open feeling with the raising of the ceiling to follow the roof-
line, the window geat arrangement, reading loft and herringboned 6vtck
floor.
Throughout the house can be seen watercolors and egg tempera
paintings by Eileen Catbagan.
