Gene E. Sawyer
Gene was burn on June 1, 1730 in
Curtis, Nebraska to David and
Bessie (Boyd) Sawyer. Having
moved to Shelton at a very young
age, Gene attended Shelton schools
and graduated from Irene 8. Reed
High School in i949. Following
high school, he served in the Unit-
\ed States Army. Gene married
Shirley A. Bender in Shelton on
June 10,1953, in the early years,
he owned and operated a part-time
TV repair shop and worked in the
Central Maintenance Shop at the
Simpson Timber Company for 35
years, After leaving the Simpson
Timber Company, Gene worked as
the Electrical Superintendent for
the State of Washington, retiring
in January of 2000. He and his wite
loved la travel to Arizona for a few
months, but needed to come back
home to be near his grandchildren.
He enioyed working in his vord and
fishing, was a lifetime member of
the V.F.W., and was a member of
the l,B.E.W. Union Local #76 and
the First Baptist Church of Shel-
ton. Gene passed away in Arizona
on Tuesday, March (a, 1007, at the
age of 76 years, He is survived by
his wite, Shirley, of Olympia; two
sons, Craig, of Kirkland, and Jeff,
of Olympia; one daughter, Sherri
Webster, of Edmonds; four grand-
children, Knitlyn, Brynn, and No-
lan Webster, of Edmonds, and Jack
Sawyer, of Olympia; and two
cousins, Rollin and Robert Aitken,
of Shelton. A graveside service
will be held at the Shelton Memo~
riol Park on Thursday, March is,
2007, beginning at it :00 am, and
a celebration of Genes life will be
held at the First Baptist Church oi
Shelton on Thursday, March 15,
2007, beginning at i230 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the
Gene Sawyer Scholarship Fund, do
