"Dick" Sperry holding dog in his arm and Frank Kazenski to his right in Silverton, with Billy Lord's saloon behind them. [0d] [0a] [0d] [0a] Sperry had an unsavory reputation, based on his conviction for salting a mine on Marten Creek and selling it to a Seattle man (see details in Everett Herald files, ca. 1895) and later filing a claim on the Big Four meadow area to make some money. [0d] [0a] [0d] [0a] His cabin was just east of the Marten Creek trail and below the old trail up the valley to Silverton; debris there in 1976 when I checked it. He utilized a hollow cedar stump for building his outhouse hole. Ted Turner told me he died of overdosing prescription medicine, trying to get over his ailment sooner. [0d] [0a] [0d] [0a] Sperry partnered with Andrew Iverson in mining ventures, thus the Sperry-Iverson adit just east of Marten Creek and also workings downstream from the Sunrise Mine trail crossing on the west side. [0d] [0a] [0d] [0a] Kazenski is showing off his weapons for the photographer. Date on back says 1893.- per David Cameron, 2005 [0d] [0a] [0d] [0a] Must be telegraph poles is dated 1893. per Mary Deaton, Granite Falls Historical Society,Photos,Museum Collection,General Photos,General Photos 12,Print, Photographic (2006.35.203),Print, Photographic (2006.35.203) 1, Print, Photographic (2006.35.203) 1
