for Lois “Katharine“ Calkins, a
lifetime resident of Shelton who
died on June 30.
Services will be held at the
Christmas Village Community
Club on Sunday, August 4, from 1
to 3 p.m.
Mrs. Calkinsidied i: the emer-
gency room of Mason General
Hospital. She was 77.
She was born in Shelton on
March 26, 1919 to William and
Beulah (Russell) Brown.
She was employed by the state
highway department from 1956 to
1982, when she retired. She
worked there mostly as a field
technician, but did a little ac-
counting.
She was a member of the Shel-
ton Kiwanis Club, Retired Public
Employees, the Children’s Ortho-
pedic Auxiliary, the Help One
Student to Succeed (HOSTS) tu-
toring program through the Shel-
ton School District, the Mason
General Hospital Auxiliary, the
Jolly Jesters and the Mason
County Historical Society and
was a volunteer at the Saints’
Pantry.
Mrs. Calkins loved to travel.
She went all over the world after
her retirement.
She is survived by her daugh-
ter, Nancy Horiuchi of Seattle;
her son, Nicholas Calkins of Bel-
videre, Illinois; and her three coue
sins, Louis Schmidt of Shelton,
Marie Lunsford of Foster City,
California, and Ardley Blochberg»
er of San Diego, California.
Mrs. Calkins will be inumed at
Shelton Memorial Park.
