Notes from a phone call with Mrs. Shetenhelm (375-5622) 3/07/2002 Note: Mrs. Shetenhelm is the granddaughter of Gen. Edward Plummer. She has lived in the family home on Laurel (Corner of Chestnut) since 1927. She is in her 80s and is a VERY private person. Does not want her house or her grandfather to get any publicity. She told me to put nothing in the Board & Batten about her house or family! Notes from the conversation: She is the daughter of General Plummer's youngest daughter, Georgia, who died in January 1927 ... predeceasing the General who died in February 1927. The General' s obituary refers to his surviving daughter as Elizabeth, but Mrs. Shetenhelm says that is incorrect. Her name was Bessie, which was not a nickname nor was it short for Elizabeth or anything else. She has the birth certificate which says Bessie. Her grandmother, also named Georgia, the wife of General Plummer died in 1941. Except for the aluminum siding which was added in 1964, covering the original wooden shingles, the house is the same as when originally built. She said she knew Kate Boynton, who lived in her home at the corner of Short & Alder. Mrs. Boynton was a reporter for an Oakland newspaper and she retired in Pacific Grove. She did not drive and walked everywhere in her tennis shoes. She said people sometimes "made fun" of her for that. Mrs. Shetenhelm was upset about a plague she saw on another house that said Kate Boynton. She said Kate didn't live in it so it should not be referred to as the Kate Boynton house. She did not care if Kate had owned it or not. I tried to explain our criteria, but she wasn't interested. I asked if she would like to share any ofher memories and she said No. *** end *** , OCR Text: Notes from a phone call with Mrs. Shetenhelm (375-5622) 3/07/2002 Note: Mrs. Shetenhelm is the granddaughter of Gen.
