VOL 28 NO 3 THE CHINA LAKER Hewlett-Packard Company President’s Message by Bob Campbell Sept 2023 I am thrilled Michelle Kilikauskas has agreed to step up and take on the CLMF Presidency as of Oct 1st. Alice is even more thrilled as she intends to start implementing the planning for many more trips for us across the nation in her new Sanctuary 19L RV, viewing museums and more. As you meet Michelle, you will see she is a leader and has great capability and passion for the Museum and especially the education aspect. She was instrumental, along with Merrie Giles, and with counsel from Laura Hickle in obtaining the STEAM Annex Grant. Both Alice and I will continue our participation as CLMF Directors. I have waited a long time to step aside. I am looking forward to focusing on the exhibits with Dr. Bob Smith and his team. The new Exhibit Hall will be operational in 2024. We will finally be able to relocate the Base site exhibits into Ridgecrest. Thanks for the memories and continued support from all of you!! Sincerely Bob Campbell As a second-generation China Laker, I have always felt fortunate my family moved to China Lake at a time (1970) that allowed me to grow up on Base and personally meet many of the NOTS/NWC legends, whose pictures we proudly display on our museum walls. I also feel extremely fortunate to have worked alongside many exceptional young scientists and engineers at NAWCWD prior to my retirement in 2021. I have had the opportunity to interact with both the past and future of China Lake and have always felt deeply proud to be part of the China Lake story. It is my privilege to serve as the new CLMF Board President at a time when so much of what CLMF members have worked toward over the last 30 years is coming to life. Welcoming guests to our museum’s Ridgecrest campus for community events and school field trips has been a highlight of the last year for me personally. It has also been rewarding to see the recent progress on the new Exhibit Hall. We are so close to our long-term goal of having the wonderful artifacts from the base location accessible to the public in our new Exhibit Hall. Thank you for your vision that started us on this path and for the hard work and generous financial support that has gotten us to this point. I am deeply grateful for the trust you have placed in me, and I look forward to working with you in this exciting new chapter in the life of the museum.
