Student found after search
Mason County sheriff’s deputies
found the body of a 23-year~old
Evergreen State College student in
a wooded area west of Hoodsport
on May 4 in the course of a two-day
search.
The young man was identified as
Jason E. Madsen, whose family
lives in Seattle. He died of an ap—
parently self-inflicted gunshot
wound, Mason County Detective
Inspector Nick Patterson said this
week.
Patterson said the investigation
n when a Hoodsport area
landowner reported a burned car
on the caller’s property. The vehi-
cle, he explained, had been seen
earlier by deputies in a different
location. They investigated the
area around both locations and
then contacted the registered own-
er of the vehicle.
The car’s owner, who was out of
twin at the time of the initial con
tact, told deputies late Monday
that the vehicle had been in his
son’s possession. The young man
had by then been reported missing.
"We started looking on Tuesday,“
Patterson said. “We found him

The body, according to Deputy
Coroner Mike Clift, was found
close to a quarter of a mile off an old
logging road near Foothills Park

cupied vehicle, which was burned
some distance away from where it
was initially seen.
