Our library
Good news about the MCGS library, Pat Tostevin has accepted the mantle as our librarian. Yay!! She has
taken our old online Library Thing catalog and organized, into the Mason County Genealogical Society
Library which can be found following this link https://www.librarycat.org/lib/Macogensoc . Click on the
tiny cat curled up at the bottom of the screen for more information about Tiny Cat. I found it quite
interesting.
Tiny Cat is billed as a real library catalog for small libraries. For a complete list of our holdings, simply
type books in the search bar, click enter, and up pops our holdings. If you want to find a subject, such as
Irish Heritage, use the search and you will find the books in the library related to your subject.
The status of the actual books in the MCGS library is in a state of flux. Some of the Mason County
Genealogical Society’s books have been moved to the Mason County Historic Society Museum, the
remainder are at the Family History Center. We are holding our monthly society meetings at the museum
and the thinking was to have our holdings at our meeting place. There is a catch…available space. The
books housed in the museum are available for use during museum hours
http://www.masoncountyhistoricalsociety.org/contact.html .
The library is in an evolutionary stage as our organization seeks solutions to become more relevant in what
has become a fast-changing landscape in our world here in Mason County. Expect to see changes in
response to various stimuli and don’t be afraid to offer suggestions, comments, and critiques as the group
seeks solutions for our combined future well-being. I’ll be in contact with Pat to try to keep current with
changes to the status of our library and holdings. Stay tuned. Don’t change that dial. Pictures at eleven.
Impending merger?
The latest online buzz, Mason County Genealogy Society has been approached to merge with the National Chapter of
Mediocre Genealogists and assist them climb the ladder to genealogical competency. Follow us on RancidRumors. AF2018
