Clarence H. "Clancy" Grunert,
former manager of Graystone
Concrete Products and owner-op—
erator of Grunert’s Chevron Sta—
tion in Shelton, died Monday,
September 27, in Longview. He
was 92,
He was born June 3, 1907 in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Theo»
dore and Jennie Grunert. He
moved with his family to Tacoma
in 1913. He attended Lincoln and
Stadium high schools there.
He married Venetta Orsborn
Enyeart in 1972. Previously, he
married Carol Barkley in 1931.
She preceded him in death in
1971.
Mr. Grunert managed Gray-
stone Concrete Products for 17
years and owned and operated
Grunert’s Chevron Station for
five years. He was also enologist
for Werberger Winery and Distill»
ing Company in Shelton for 17
years, retiring in 1969.
He was active in Masonic activ-
ities, serving as master of Mount
Moriah Lodge in 1946 and district
deputy to the grand master of
District 17 in 1955 and 1956. He
was a member of Royal Arch Ma-
sons in Olympia, Knight Teme
plers in Olympia and Affifi Tem»
ple Shriners. He served as past
patron of Welcome Chapter of
Eastern Star twice and father ad-
visor of Rainbow Girls in Shelton.
Mr. Grunert served on the
Shelton City Commission for
eight years and on the Agate Dis-
trict School Board for eight years.
He was also past president of the
Shelton Kiwanis Club.
He was a member of Emman-
uel Lutheran Church in Longview
and a former member of Galilean
Chapel in Ocean Shores, Trinity
Lutheran Church in Longview
and the United Methodist Church
of Shelton.
He was also active in square
dancing for more than 30 years
and served with his wife, Venetta,
as the chairman couple for the So-
cial and Special Events commit—
tee for the 1981 National Square
Dance Convention in Seattle. He
danced regularly untillle was 84‘
His family said he was known
a ver entle, generous and
giving 138%. A rockhound, he
made many pieces of Jewelry for
friends and relatives. He also
loved to dig razor clams and made
clam chowder for family get-to-
gethers and other occasions.
The Grunerts lived in Ocean
Shores from 1978 to 1983, after
which they lived the full»time re-
creational vehicle lifestyle until
ill health intervened.
He is survived by his wife, Ve-
netta Grunert of LongView; son
Garth Grunert of Shelton; daugh—
ter Susan Rose of Shelton; step-
sons Jim Enyeart of Longview
and Terry Enyeart of Seabeck;
stepdaughters Anita Treichel of
Longview and Kathy Scheel of
Aurora, Oregon; 22 grandchildren
and step-grandchildren, and 11
great-grandchildren and step-
