Edwin Metzler
Edwin J. Metzler died at Mason
General Hospital on March 17. He
was 79.
He was born in Black Diamond
on May 27, 1915 to Joseph and
Margaret Metzler. His father had
emigrated from Germany at the
age of 20.
Upon graduating from Vaughn
High School, he joined the Civilian
Conservation Corps, working with
the CCC until the start of World
War lI. He enlisted in the Navy
and served in the Pacific before
ending his tour of duty as a chief
petty officer.
After the war he co—founded a
lumber mill in Dayton. He was a
welder at Certified Aerospace and
hauled timber with his own logging
truck. He retired from the Puget
Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremer-
ton, where he worked as a welder
on nuclear submarines
Mr. Metzler was married to his
wife, Dorothy, on April 26, 1957‘
His special interests were garden-
ing, fishing and taking trips to
Reno, Nevada.
He was preceded in death by his
sister, Dorothy. Survivors include
his wife, Dorothy; his daughter and
son-in-law, Sally Jo and David
Fisher; his son and daughterin-
law, Scott and Stella Memler of
Union; his grandchildren, David
and Sallie Fisher, Danica and Ka-
mee Metzler; other family mem-
bers, including Bruce and Karen
Cowan, Connie and Gordy Adams,
Sally and Don Stacy and Bette and
Mike Morton; his sisters, Frances
Kinkaid of Gig Harbor, Clara Mur-
phy of Santa Ysobel, California,
Marion Langston of Harlowton,
Montana, Ruth Wysong of Spo-
kane and Pearl Klier of Maple Val-
ley; 10 other grandchildren and 11
great-grandchildren.
The Reverend Steve Schroeder
officiated at memorial services
held March 19 at the Union Fire
Hall Music was provided by Jamie
